One method of monitoring the process of Roma inclusion in Serbia is the mechanism of the Seminar on the Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia. The coordination role in preparing the report and organizing meetings dedicated to the monitoring and implementation of conclusions is held by the Office for Human and Minority Rights and the Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The Second Report presented an overview of all activities implemented by the state between April 2014 and December 2014 to secure protection and improvement of the status of Roma in the Republic of Serbia using budget, as well as donor funds, at the national and local level, in accordance with the conclusions agreed upon with the European Commission.
It was stated that the foundations are set for the sustainable improvement of the status of Roma, particularly in the sectors of education and healthcare, and initiatives were started for a more humane form of housing for Roma from informal settlements. The efficiency of the established mobile teams for Roma inclusion was presented in supporting the Roma population in achieving their rights, along with mechanisms established by the Government aiming to develop multisectoral cooperation and coordination of projects aimed at improving the status of Roma in Serbia. The drafting of the new Roma Inclusion Strategy was set as a priority for the Government of the Republic of Serbia in the field of protection and improvement of the status of Roma in the Republic of Serbia, for the period up to 2025.
This report also represents the preparation for the forthcoming Seminar, to be held in June 2015, where the new cycle of obligations for the Republic of Serbia in the field of Roma inclusion will be established.
