The inclusion of gender equality in programme budgets is very important in combating gender inequality so that women would not remain an underused potential, said Deputy Prime Minister and president of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality prof. dr Zorana Mihajlović.
After the opening of the seminar regarding gender responsible budgeting in the Republic of Serbia at the “Zira” hotel in Belgrade, she said that the budget of Serbia for 2016 will most certainly be gender sensitive. In practice this means, she added, that when the budget is produced at the local level or state level, and when expenditures are planned, they will also be planned regarding the gender equality situation.
Mihajlović said it is important to defeat gender inequality, with all the prejudice and stereotypes in society, and to correct all errors in order for the system to function.
The director of UN Women for Serbia Asya Varbanova noted that the goal is for Serbia to be a leader in this and therefore the exchange of experiences is important, since this organization stimulated the principle of gender responsible budgeting in over 70 countries.
