The Minister for European Integration of the Government of the Republic of Serbia Jadranka Joksimović stated that the European Union opened two new chapters in Serbia’s accession negotiations at the Eighth Intergovernmental Conference in Luxembourg.
Joksimović, leading the delegation of Serbia at this conference, the first since the Bulgarian presidency over EU, noted that these are Chapter 33, related to financial and budget provisions, and Chapter 13, regarding fisheries.
Speaking at the press conference the Minister recalled that our country, with two new chapters, has 14 open chapters, with two temporarily closed. She assessed that reforms in the field of rule of law are key for Serbia, and reiterated the commitment of our country to the European integration process.
The European Union Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said that the two new chapters were opened based on the principle of merit, expressed the expectation that Serbia will open new chapters during the Austrian presidency of the Union during the second half of the year, and repeated that this requires continued reform.
