On 24 May, the Minister without portfolio in the Serbian Government responsible for European Integration Jadranka Joksimović met the delegation of the German Bundestag, spearheaded by Hans-Peter Friedrich and Florian Hahn.
The Minister’s Office issued a press release about the meeting, stating that Minister Joksimović expressed gratitude to Germany, as Serbia’s most significant bilateral donor, for EUR 1.6 billion of grants awarded over the past 15 years, as well as for the overall support provided by Germany to Serbia in the European integration process.
She stressed Serbia’s clear commitment to continuing the EU accession process and, in that context, she recognised the European integration as the most effective mechanism for the country’s development.
Ms Joksimović also pointed out that Serbia had thus far opened eight negotiation chapters, two of which were temporarily closed, and announced that two more chapters would be opened by the end of the Maltese Presidency of the EU. These are chapters 7 and 29, on intellectual property law and the customs union, respectively.
The German delegation assessed that efforts towards strengthening regional stability, thus also creating the conditions for economic progress and the development of the entire region, were essential for both Germany and the entire Union. They also expressed unambiguous support to the continuation of Serbia’s European integration process and the fulfilment of the relevant criteria, and stressed that Serbia had proven to be an active and reliable partner of the EU.
