The session of the Council for the Improvement of the Status of Roma and Implementation of the Decade of Roma Inclusion was held on Monday, 23 February 2015, at the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The session was chaired by Nenad Ivanišević, state secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs. Session participants included members of the Council, representatives of the Ministry, Office for Human and Minority Rights, as well as representatives of the Roma civil sector and the National Council of the Roma National Minority. In addition to the above, the session was also attended by four interns from the Roma national minority participating in this year’s cycle of “Internship Programme for Youth-Minority Members in State Institutions in Serbia”. Likewise, the session was attended by the director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights, dr Suzana Paunović, and deputy director Dragoljub Acković.
Issues discussed at the session include the entry of Serbia into the second Roma Decade, with additional discussion on the Initial Basis for Drafting the Roma Inclusion Strategy in Serbia harmonized with the Europe 2020 Strategy, and the pre-draft Law on Legalizing Informal Sustainable Roma Settlements. Likewise, the session included talks on funds available for Roma issues per ministry from this year’s budget of the RS, along with analyses of the implementation of the Action Plan for 2014.
