There are three times less exporters among small and medium-size enterprises in Serbia than among their counterparts in the European Union, showed the analysis of the Business Support Network. According to the analysis conducted by this consultancy company, 4.1% of small and medium-size enterprises in Serbia is exports-oriented, the EU 14 average being 11.9%.
The Network assesses that the lagging of Serbia behind the EU indicates the need for a new strategy of development of small and medium-size enterprises. As stated in the comparative analysis of SME sector in Serbia and the EU 14, the share of small and medium-size exporters in Serbia in total revenues of the sector is 8.8%, while the EU 14 average is 25.2%.
The data, inter alia, show the living standards of the population of these contries to be directly dependent on the level of SME sector development, and so the countries in Europe with the greatest number of exports-oriented SMEs are deemed best for life.
