The Statement of Cooperation of Equality Bodies in South-Eastern Europe was signed at the Regional conference of Equality Bodies in South-Eastern Europe, held in Belgrade on 16 November, based on the key role of such bodies in combating discrimination and achieving full equality for all members of society.
In addition to the Commissioner for the Protection of Equality of the Republic of Serbia Brаnkica Јаnkоvić, the statement was signed by eight institutions from five South-Eastern Europe countries – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro.
The statement emphasized the deeply held belief that respect for human rights and prohibition of discrimination represent a fundamental value and starting point for the social and economic development of every country, as well as the personal development of every individual. Equality institutions will cooperate on the principles of coordination, mutual respect, partnership, equity and equality, common planning, harmonization of activities and continuous mutual communication, with the next meeting to be held next year in Zagreb.
