The Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) has signed cooperation agreements on 27 June with 10 selected towns and municipalities that will thus receive a comprehensive package of support for the development and improvement of strategic, financial and institutional mechanisms in implementing measures for the social inclusion of Roma.
The signing of the cooperation agreement will provide support under Component 1 of the Programme “EU Support to Roma Inclusion – Strengthening Local Communities for Roma Inclusion”, implemented by SCTM and financed by the European Union, to the following local self-government units: Aranđelovac, Bečej, Vršac, Doljevac, Lebane, Loznica, Mladenovac, Pirot, Smederevska Palanka and Surdulica, all with the aim of improving the social and economic status of the Roma population and implementing priority strategic measures from the Strategy for the Social Inclusion of Roma in the Republic of Serbia from 2016 to 2025.
Planned support for the 10 selected local self-governments is reflected in piloting a comprehensive package of support for implementing Roma inclusion measures through the following key activities:
- Establishing a Local Coordination Body for managing Roma inclusion policies (new mechanism as a political body comprised of the highest representatives of key institutions in the local community);
- Drafting of a Local Action Plan (LAP) for Roma inclusion;
- Forming a Mobile Team for Roma inclusion and continued support to the work of the Mobile Team as a key operational mechanism for improving the efficiency of providing public services and support to the Roma community;
- Securing support from the local budget for the implementation of measures from the LAP and annual Operational Plan of the Mobile Team.
