The Tax Busters team, whose members are Dušan Pavlov, Predrag Mijalković and Miroslav Krstić from Pančevo, is one of the winners of the Ministry of Data Challenge, organised in Zagreb, on 18–19 February. Ten teams from the region participated in the challenge and the winning teams were Verbatim, Tax busters, Dream Green Team Machine, InoCoders and Biciklo.me. The team from Pančevo triumphed in the Cities of Tomorrow challenge track and won a $2,500 cash prize.
The Tax Busters presented a web portal designed to provide free tax-related assistance, as the first online guide to Serbian taxes and the issues of financial accountability of cities, providing insight into how the funds from local budgets are spent. The portal is already built and the plan is to launch it in June 2017, once the improvement of its design is complete.
Ministry of Data is a competition for countries in the Western Balkans –Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Albania and Serbia, aimed at ensuring that people in the region become actively involved in the use of open data, since it is still not sufficiently developed in the region.
