The Association of Serbian Sign Language Interpreters (ATSZJ) in cooperation with the City Organization of the Deaf Persons of Belgrade translated the Law on the Use of Sign Language to the Serbian sign language as part of the “Translation of the Law on the Use of Sign Language to the Serbian sign language and the promotion of the sign language interpreting profession.” The project was implemented with the support of the Sector for the Protection of Persons with Disabilities of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing of Serbia and Montenegro.
The aim of the project is to strengthen the status of deaf persons so they would have equal conditions for active participation in the social and political life, promotion of rights and responsibilities and improvement of developmental processes on the local level. The aim was also to raise awareness by learning about the rights guaranteed by the Law on the Use of Sign Language in the Republic of Serbia and the manner in which they can be exercised, with a view of its full implementation.
