Human security and violence against women were the main topics of the Gender Policy Forum organized by the Women’s Platform for the Development of Serbia in cooperation with the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, with the support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, on April 12.
The priorities of the Women’s Platform for Development of Serbia in the field of human security and violence against women were presented at the discussion, as well as a partial progress review of the Platform indicators based on the available data, available assessments and recommendations for further work. The conclusion of the discussion was that the security of each individual is essential for the creation of stable and peaceful societies. Security is a prerequisite for the development of society, and we cannot talk about development if Serbian citizens live in constant fear of different forms and types of violence, or they do not feel safe in the neighbourhood, region or country they live in.
Women’s Platform was created as a result of a conference in Palić, held at the end of 2014. This conference brought together a large number of women engaged in various public institutions, parliaments, the academic community, civil society, the private sector, political parties, trade unions and the media. It contains defined development objectives for different areas of social life that aim to improve the quality of everyday life of men and women in Serbia, for the period 2014-2020. The Platform is supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
