On 3 June Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia and Chairperson of the Coordination Body for Gender Equality Zorana Mihajlović presented certificates to representatives of crafts associations producing traditional handicraft based on Serbian cultural heritage.
Mihajlović, speaking at the national conference “Champions of Local Development”, commended the cooperation with the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED), evidenced by the introduction of electronic construction permits, cadastral reforms and the initiative “Let’s employ 1,000 women in rural areas”.
Mihajlović noted that more than 350 women have found jobs within a year, expressing hope that next year we could reach the number of 1,000 employed women in villages.
Mihajlović expressed her conviction that the initiative “Let’s employ 1,000 women in rural areas” can be a good model to start new projects that will aim for the employment and self-employment of women and their economic independence and empowerment.
The Chairperson of the Executive Board of NALED Dejan Đokić said that awards have been presented to champions and runner-ups among towns and municipalities that have improved the quality of services and life of their citizens through administrative reform and the implementation of new approaches to doing business.
Certificates have been awarded to women’s craft associations from Čačak, Loznica, Šabac, Leskovac and Sremska Mitrovica, while Niš, Vranje, Vrnjačka Banja, Stara Pazova, Šabac, Mionica, Bečej, Kruševac and Loznica have been awarded as champions of local development.
