The Memorandum on Cooperation according to which the local authorities are obligated to work on the protection of the LBGT community has been signed in Subotica.
The organisation “Labris” announced that the Memorandum was signed by local institutions and civil society organisations, highlighting that this is the first document with which the local authorities responsible for the protection of citizen’s rights are obligated to establish a network, monitor and actively react when faced with cases of discrimination against the LGBT community.
Apart from Subotica, the Memorandums on Cooperation were signed in Belgrade, Niš, Pančevo, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and it will be signed in Novi Pazar.
“The most important thing is that local authorities cooperate in the fight to improve the position of the LGBT community and that their work becomes more efficient and coordinated. This is the only way the LGBT community will regain confidence in these institutions”, said Lidija Đorđević from the organisation “Labris” which has been implementing the “Networked to improve the situation of the LGBT community in Serbia” project with the financial support of the US Agency for International Development.
