The Institute for Territorial Economic Development (InTER) and the YUROM Centre performed a survey which included 45 Roma entrepreneurs from the Republic of Serbia. According to the results, which were presented on December 28, 2016, in the Media Centre in Belgrade, the majority of Roma entrepreneurs are working within the service sector, manufacturing industry, waste recycling, and agricultural sector.
The Roma usually manage family businesses, with a small number of employees and income less than one million dinars. The results indicate that Roma entrepreneurs are faced with a lack of financial resources, high taxes and contributions on labour, unfair competitions and prejudice of the majority population, furthermore the entrepreneurial development among the Roma is limited by the insufficient establishment of business associations and the lack of incentives for the development of entrepreneurship.
