The Lawyers’ Committee for Human Rights – YUCOM prepared the Self-Advocacy Guide for Citizens as part of the “Improved Access to Justice – Empowering Citizens for Self-representation” project supported by the World Bank.
Having in mind that the Law on free legal aid has not been adopted yet in the Republic of Serbia, and considering country’s overall economic situation, this Guide should educate citizens on their human rights in court or in dealing with government bodies. Through more efficient self-advocacy in court or in dealing with government bodies responsible for protection of human rights – Ombudsman and Commissioner for Protection of Equality, the Guide can also provide the basis for improving the realization of human rights for a wide range of citizens, primarily those who, due to their economic situation, are unable to pay for legal representation.
This version represents the Draft of the Guide which is still in development. All suggestions and comments which would make the final version of the Guide user-friendly and in line with the needs of its users and thus contributing to the fulfilment of its purpose are welcome.
All suggestions can be sent to office@yucom.org.rs.
