Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović stated on 2 June that the introduction of gender responsible budgeting represent a further step forward in the reform of the national budget system and announced the introduction of a gender component for all budget institutions.
Mihajlović, also presiding over the Coordination Body for Gender Equality, speaking on the occasion of the start of trainings for the introduction of gender-responsible budgeting for 2017, said that such a budget has now become an obligation, since the Government included the measures in the Law on the Budget System, adopted in December 2015.
The inclusion of gender equality in programme budgets is very important in combating gender discrimination, since women should not remain an untapped potential in society, she emphasized, and added that the goal of the Government is for all budget institutions at the state and local level to introduce gender components in their budgets by 2020.
Gender-responsible budgeting involves a gender analysis of the budget and inclusion of a gender perspective in all budgeting processes, along with the restructuring of income and expenses to improve gender equality.
