The TV show “Sofa/Access to Justice” premiered on Saturday, 7 February 2015, at 21:30, on a national frequency, on the First Channel of RTV Vojvodina, with a rerun on Sunday at 09:30.
The series encompasses shows dealing with the following issues: children as delinquents – underage persons committing crimes; children victims/witnesses in crimes regarding human trafficking and criminal proceedings regarding robbery; children in divorce proceedings; rights of children in the poorest families to financial and social assistance; rights of underage persons sentenced to prison or a correction facility; children victims of family violence; and access to education for children.
The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Shock Art group successfully organized four discussions in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Novi Pazar and Niš with the subject of children in the judicial system. The discussions were organized as part of the series “Sofa – Access to Justice”, with the target group for the discussions being students from state universities in Serbia. The goal of the debates was for the students to actively develop a deeper understanding of how judicial reform may help children in vulnerable situations to make use of their rights. The series of discussions, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Norway in Belgrade, and working through a number of interviews with renowned experts working in this field, shows in a critical, but constructive way how the judicial system works in regards to underage persons in Serbia. By researching the situations and procedures children may find themselves in within the judicial system, the series contributes to strengthening the rule of law in Serbia.
