The United Nations called for urgent measures to supress violence among women. The new report of this global organization showed that women are better educated and live longer, but also that one in three say they were victims of violence. The report “Progress of the World’s Women” is published every five years, and the current, sixth one, for 2015-16, provides data for 200 indicators in 102 countries.
Women in Serbia are at a lower risk of living in the most impoverished households, but fewer among them are employed, and spend twice as much time on unpaid work, such as housework and care for household members.
The good news in the report is that the attitudes on violence in marriage or sexual violence started to change in nearly all countries where there is information on this problem. Thus, at least 199 countries today have laws on violence in the home, 125 on sexual harassment, and 52 on violence in marriage.
