The promotion of the 3rd Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE III), prepared by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, for East and Southeast European countries was held on 26 January in Belgrade.
The event was organised by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) from Hamburg, the International Council for Adult Education – ICAE (based in Uruguay), the Adult Education Society from Belgrade and the Andragogy Department of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the Republic of Serbia Committee for Cooperation with UNESCO.
The 3rd Global Report on Adult Learning and Education was prepared based on the reports submitted by 139 UNESCO Member States, including Serbia. It was a part of a long-term process, in which UNESCO gathers the Member States every 12 years for a big international conference on adult education (CONFINTEA), where they jointly create adult education policies and agree on the instruments for monitoring the results achieved at country level.
The 3rd Global Report on Adult Learning and Education adopts a specific, intersectoral approach to lifelong learning by presenting the impact of adult education on three main domains: personal – health and well-being; economic – employment and the labour market, and social – civic and community life. In this way, GRALE III provides assistance and valuable information to policymakers, researchers and practitioners, but it also stresses the significant role that education and learning will play in the pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, especially the Goal 4 – “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”
