The Minister of Youth and Sport in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Vanja Udovičić, Doina Bologa, the Director of UNFPA, and Michel Saint-Lot, the Director of the UNICEF Office in Serbia, attended the Conference on sustainable development goals “Where are Young People in the Agenda 2030?” held on 21 February. The Conference was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sport in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Since the adoption of the Agenda 2030, also known as “Sustainable Development Goals by 2030”, which was adopted by the United Nations member states in September 2015, the Republic of Serbia was one of the first states to establish the Body for the implementation of the Agenda 2030, and also the Inter-sectoral Working Group for the Implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. One of the tasks of this Body is to cooperate with relevant ministries in the monitoring of the implementation of the Agenda 2030 and to actively work on all 17 goals (169 sub-goals), with the aim to reduce poverty, consequences of climate change, and inequality by 2030.
The role of the youth sector is very important for achieving these goals by 2030; this is why this national Conference was organised. The Conference was attended by 150 representatives of youth organisations and youth offices, as well as international donors, and the representatives of the UN programmes and agencies.
