The workshop titled “Including refugee/migrant children in formal education”, organized by UNICEF, Center for Educational Policies, and Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, took place July 3-4, 2017, in Belgrade.
The two-day activities were part of the project “Supporting refugee/migrant students in the territory of the Republic of Serbia” and aimed at identifying the challenges that were detected during the admission and support of students, in order to define models and individual activities that can contribute to overcoming the challenges in applying the Expert Instruction for the inclusion of student refugees/asylum seekers in the education system, drafting a Welcome Program for migrant and refugee children, identifying the needs of schools for support, and preparing educational institutions for the inclusion of migrant students in the education program for the school year 2017/2018.
The workshop was attended by representatives of schools and preschool institutions who were involved in the project, representatives of the Ministry with educational councilors from school administrations from the schools and preschools territories, representatives of social work centers, ZUOV, and international and domestic NGOs (UNICEF, UNHCR, Save the Children, PIN, Adra, DRC, etc.).
