The council of executive directors of the World Bank approved a 100 million dollar credit for Serbia for the project of financing the results achieved in increasing competitiveness and creating new jobs.
Since the start of the global economic crisis in 2008, Serbia has been facing slow economic recovery, the WB says. With a dedication towards reform, the economic situation started improving in 2015, so that the economic growth is positive, export is on the rise, and employment has been increasing since the beginning of the year.
However, although Serbia is implementing thorough economic reforms regarding state enterprises and public administration, a lot more needs to be done so that the private sector could push economic growth.
– Creating new jobs for young people is Serbia’s greatest priority. The Prime Minister also emphasized this the day before yesterday at the meeting, and we reacted to this with a project to deal with the problems that cause concern, namely by strengthening investment promotion, stimulating innovation in economy and helping young citizens of Serbia to connect with employers – says World Bank Vice-President for Europe and Central Asia, Cyril Muller.
