The “Youth and the European Union – a Look into the Future” debate was held at the National Library “Dositej Obradović” in Novi Pazar.
The debate provided the opportunity for an open discussion with young people, secondary school and university students about the future of the European Union with regard to current challenges it faces, and about their expectations regarding the ongoing process of European integration of the Republic of Serbia.
During the time dedicated to the discussion, the participants expressed their views on the European Union and expectations they had regarding the ongoing process of European integration of Serbia. Key observations included the need for social reform so as to demonstrate a willingness to be part of the European family, and the need to create conditions that would motivate young people to stay in the country with the expectation that the process of the European integration could make this possible. The participants also stressed the inadequate concept of the educational system in Serbia, which has numerous shortcomings with regard to accepting diversity which is one of the most important European values. They also added that young people need to be better informed about the EU programmes.
The Debate was organised in anticipation of Europe Day celebration as one of the activities of the Team Europe – Serbia with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia and the EU Info Centre.
