The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and experts in the field of digital accessibility, published the translated publication “Guidance on Providing Open and Distance Learning for Students with Disabilities during School Closures: Enhancing Inclusive Learning under COVID-19”.
The publication was prepared by the UNESCO International Research and Training Centre for Rural Education (UNESCO INRULED) in cooperation with the Arab League of Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), UNIR from Spain, the Near East University of Cyprus and the Special Education School Dr Milan Petrović from Serbia.
The goal of the Guidance is to study teaching methods used in working with students with disabilities during the pandemic, and the challenges faced by teachers. Furthermore, the publication offers guidelines on designing accessible educational content based on universal design for learning, and guidance for parents on how to conduct active learning with their children at home.
The Guidance provides recommendations for various stakeholders, including teachers, decision-makers, creators and agencies for quality assessment on how to improve inclusive education and be ready for an uncertain future.
We hope the Guidance will improve the process of digital inclusion of students with developmental impairments and disabilities in education in the Republic of Serbia.
