Training Held for Deputies of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina on the Rights of the Child

Published 05.10.2018.

Pokrajinski zaštitnik građana - logoEndeavouring to improve the status of the rights of the child in our country, and having in mind the closing remarks and recommendations of the Committee for the Rights of the Child issued to the Republic of Serbia regarding the second and third periodic report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Provincial Ombudsman, with the support of UNICEF, has organized a training on the rights of the child for deputies of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina. The three-day training of deputies of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina was held from 1 to 3 October 2018 at the “Vojvodina” hotel in Zrenjanin.

The full exercise of the rights of the child is impossible without a clear and decisive commitment of policy creators to include the concept of the rights of the child into all aspects of their activities, including: harmonization of legislation and strategic activities with the principles and provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child, allocation of funds and budget allocations for children, forming bodies and strengthening mechanisms for the exercise of the rights of the child, development of methodologies and programmes for collecting data on children, etc. Since they are active participants of policy creation at the level of AP Vojvodina, it is necessary for deputies of the Assembly of AP Vojvodina to understand the concept of the rights of the child, to integrate it in their work, and to be sensitized to the creation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies for children.

The Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit of the Government of the Republic of Serbia (SIPRU) has participated in this training and presented their experiences to the deputies of AP Vojvodina regarding challenges in identifying budget expenditures for children.
