VIRTUS Award Winners for 2015 Announced

virtus_dobitnici_2015The winners of the VIRTUS award for philanthropy, activities and programmes completed in 2015, were announced during a formal ceremony held at the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra Hall. The awards were given in five main categories as well as two other special recognitions:

  • Main award for contribution at the national level – Delta Holding Ltd Belgrade, for their programme “Plantation for the Future”.
  • Award for the contribution to the local community in which the company operates – JTI International AD Senta, for their financial and equipment donations as well as employee volunteer work.
  • Award for small and medium enterprises – Nordeus Ltd, Belgrade, for their support of the “Battle for Maternity Wards” and “Battle for Schools” campaigns, as well as their support given to the Children’s Drop-in Centre and Children’s shelter.
  • Award for a long-term partnership between the business and the non-profit sector – GlaxoSmithKline Ltd, for their ten-year partnership with BELHospice crowned by the “PULSE!” programme which has been implemented for the past two years.
  • Award for the individual contribution to philanthropy – Milomir Glavčić, a pensioner from Niagara Falls, Canada, for his multiple donations to the institutions and citizens of Serbia. It is estimated that Mr Glavčić donated over €6.000.000 in total for different initiatives.
  • Special Award for personal contribution to providing refugee aid – Gordan Paunović, for his generous support given to the refugees passing through Serbia.
  • Special Award for small enterprise – Giros Plus Ltd from Belgrade, for continuously donating their products to children living or working on the street.

The ninth VIRTUS award competition was conducted by Trag Foundation with the support from the European Union and Balkan Trust for Democracy and in direct partnership with United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The competition was open to all domestic and foreign companies, corporations, public and state-owned companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, media houses, corporative funds and foundations, as well as individuals.

The VIRTUS award was established in 2007, and to this day, it is the most significant award for philanthropy in Serbia. The award promotes corporate social responsibility as a part of sustainable development of companies and corporations and individuals who contribute to the development of philanthropy.
