The European Union and the Swiss Government will, through the European PROGRES development programme, support the implementation of 18 projects by local Gender Equality Mechanisms (GEM) in the southeast and southwest Serbia with the aim to improve the social and economic status of women. These projects, with the total value of EUR 52,500, will contribute to the economic empowerment of women; they will encourage women entrepreneurship, improve women’s reproductive health and the fight against violence against women, as well as promote the principle of gender equality among decision-makers at the local level.
The projects were selected from a public Call for Proposals, which was open from September 8, until October 14, 2016. Local GEMs from the 34 Programme municipalities which have adopted and have valid Local Gender Equality Action Plans were eligible to apply.
