The summit of the European Union and Western Balkans in Brussels agreed that 100,000 places for managing the refugees should be made available during upcoming winter along the migrants’ routes from Greece over the Western Balkans and EU members. 50,000 of these places will be in the Western Balkans. The Summit adopted the 17-point Action Plan for managing the crisis, including the better exchange of information, stronger border control, establishment of surveillance across the Croatian-Serbian border together with Frontex and establishment of places for registration and identification of immigrants.
In addition to this, the release of the EU leaders and countries of the Western Balkans was adopted, stating that the countries along the Western Balkans’ path should establish control points for information sharing and cooperation with the European Commission directly within 24 hours.
It was also emphasized that with the European Commission all available resources would be used at European and international levels, including financial support, which would be determined by assessments within 24 hours.
