A survey “Whether the patients in Central and East Europe may put up with the increasing charges of the health sector services“ is part of the project ASSPRO CEE 2007 involving Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Ukraine, Russia, Albania and Serbia.
In Serbia, the patients pay formally and informally, but mostly indirectly, states the survey. Indirect payments are medical aids that should be provided by hospitals but instead, the patients are asked to bring them.
