The European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Johannes Hahn, announced a package of assistance amounting to almost EUR 80 million that the European Commission proposed for Serbia, Croatia and Bulgaria after the catastrophic floods of May and June this year. Most of the proceeds are earmarked for assistance to Serbia.
Should the European Parliament and the EU Council adopt this proposal of the Commission, Serbia would receive EUR 60.2 million, Croatia EUR 8.96 million and Bulgaria 10.5 million from the EU Solidarity Fund. The assistance is to cover a part of the emergency costs of the state authorities incurred as a result of the catastrophes in three countries and will be directed to rehabilitation of instrastructure and vital services, compensation of costs of emergency and life saving operations as well as for covering part of the costs incurred for removal of debris from the affected areas.
