Published 22.11.2016.

apasThe conference “Pedagogic Assistance in the Education System at a Turning Point of Development – Examples of Good Practice, Challenges and a Vision for the Future”, held on 15 November 2016 at the Palace of Serbia, represented the final event of the project “Strengthening the Role and Improving the Quality of Work of Pedagogical Assistants” implemented by the Association of Pedagogical Assistants of Serbia (APAS) in cooperation with UNICEF Serbia during 2015 and 2016.

The aim of the conference was to gather all relevant stakeholders from the national and local level, primarily representatives of educational institutions and pedagogical assistants, for the exchange of experiences regarding the current status of pedagogical assistance in the educational system of the Republic of Serbia, considering the contextual framework based on practices in the region and at the international level, as well as providing specific guidelines for drafting the Rulebook on pedagogical assistance as one of the key documents for regulating the service of pedagogical assistance in the educational system of the Republic of Serbia.

The key conclusions of the conference are: that certification of pedagogical assistants after completing training is a good basis for continued professional development of pedagogical assistants in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, that there are good foundations regarding strategic documents mandating the regulation of the legal status of pedagogical assistants through drafting the Rulebook on pedagogical assistance that will serve to regulate work with the aim of improving the quality of pedagogical assistance as a service for educational inclusion, and the drafting of the Rulebook needs to take into consideration the flexibility of work in the context of the specific needs of students.
