The Office for Human and Minority Rights of the Government of the Republic of Serbia announced that after the meetings held in Niš, Kragujevac and Novi Sad, a fourth meeting had taken place on 12 July. The subject of this meeting was the analyses of the measures and activities prescribed by the Strategy for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination and the accompanying Action Plan.
On this occasion, the Director of the Office for Human and Minority Rights Suzana Paunović voiced her expectation that, as part of the process of preparation for the adoption of the new Strategy next year, civil society organisations would contribute to the assessment of the current Anti-discrimination Strategy and the accompanying Action Plan.
Paunović pointed out that when in June 2013 Serbian Government adopted the Strategy for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination for the period 2014-2018, it decided to build a systemic institutional and legislative framework, and establish necessary mechanisms for the fight against discrimination.
She reminded that on 2 October 2014, the Government of Serbia adopted the Action Plan for implementation of the Strategy which had been harmonised with relevant action plans created during Serbia’s EU accession negotiation process (negotiation Chapters 23 and 24).
The meeting was attended by the representatives of government bodies and institutions, international and civil society organisations, national minority councils, and experts.
