Intersectoral panel on corporate social responsibility and the role of the business sector in the society was held on 28 February. It was organised by SMart Kolektiv, the USAID Institute for Sustainable Communities, Forum of Business Leaders of Serbia and in partnership with the Soicial Inclusion and Poverty Reduction Unit and the EU Delegation to Serbia.
The first Intersectoral panel on corporate social responsibility and the role of the business sector in the society focused on the analysis of the current situation of corporate social responsibility in the country with a view to identifying recommendations in this area.
This singular intersectoral panel gathered the leaders from all the sectors aiming to initiate a dialogue on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the cross-cutting topics, policies, strategies, key social challenges and the present and the potential role of the business sector in the society development.
The results of the public opinion poll conducted by Ipsos Marketing show that the citizens expect companies to be responsible in a wide sphere of operations , both within companies and with respect to different aspects in their surroundings (health and safety of workers, level of awareness of consumers, offering opportunities to employees for professional advancement, environmental awareness, etc). According to the citizens, talented pupils and students, children and youth should be supported above all.
The companies, members of the Forum of Business Leaders invested in 2012, a total of RSD 465,355,814.60 (some EUR 60,000 ) of which 93% through monetary and 7% in-kind investments. The companies focused on priority topics such as education, environmental protection and sports.
