In early 2016, the consortium – EHO (Serbia) and HEKS-EPER (Switzerland) was approved with the new 3-year project ”Improvement of living conditions for Roma and other vulnerable groups, preventing irregular migration and fostering reintegration of returnees in Serbia”.
This project is aimed toward a better support to processes of social inclusion, living condition advancement of Roma in Serbia, illegal migration prevention and returnee reintegration catalysis.
In April 2016, EHO and 4 municipalities – Stara Pazova, Gadžin Han, Surdulica and Raška have signed respective Cooperation Agreements in the common project realization. This year, partnering municipalities were obliged to allocate budget resources and thus support the project realization. By this means EHO has provided additional 21,8 million RSD. Municipal contributions were assigned for the required material expenses in the living conditions improvement in substandard Roma settlements.
In the recent period, the works in bathroom construction and fixing minor damages in houses were started in all 4 municipalities. By the end of the year, 110 families would have their living conditions thus improved.
Also, beside project activities aimed at improved living conditions, the project has organized various activities on the subjects of education and migration. In each of 4 partner municipalities there is an ongoing realization of various educational assistance activities for Roma and Non-Roma children. During the autumn 2016, there shall be also organized migration management activities aimed at improved quality of services in local communities for returnees from Western-European countries, and also activities dealing with illegal migration prevention.
The project is based on the cross-sectoral cooperation and it is inclined toward institutionalization of the EHO working methodology, namely of the author working model for advancing living conditions in substandard Roma settlements “Dweller Driven Roma Settlement Up Grading Model”.
In the period 01 March 2016 – 31 December 2018, Ecumenical Humanitarian Organization shall realize the project ” Improvement of living conditions for Roma and other vulnerable groups, preventing irregular migration and fostering reintegration of returnees in Serbia” in consortium with , HEKS-EPER (Switzerland) in worth of 1,9 mill CHF, financed by the SSM (State Secretariat for Migration, Switzerland), SDC (Swiss agency for development and cooperation, Switzerland), HEKS-EPER (Switzerland) and various self-government units in Serbia.
