The Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) decided on 19 January in Brussels to open Chapter 26 of the membership negotiations between EU and Serbia regarding culture and education. Final agreement for this was given by Croatia and Bulgaria, the Beta Agency learned at the EU Council of Ministers. Serbia could open Chapter 26 in February or March, with the potential opening of another two chapters.
There are hints that, along with Chapter 26, chapters 20 on entrepreneurship and industrial policy and 27 on the environment and climate change could also be opened.
According to Brussels officials, the opening of chapters could occur in late February or in March.
Serbia is also preparing for the opening of another 14 chapters, where it was assessed that they can be opened without additional conditions, therefore it was invited to submit negotiation positions.
