On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the Historical Archives of the European Union together with the Alcide de Gasperi Research Centre at the European University Institute, has created a travelling exhibition: Ever Closer Union – The Legacy of the Treaties of Rome for Today’s Europe.
The exhibition is composed of 14 panels reproducing documents, pictures and educational captions and explanations divided into several thematic sections. The Historical Overview addresses the beginning and the development of the European Union from the Treaties of Rome until today. The second part represents the economic and legislative unifying of European countries especially focusing on the economic and judicial legacy of the Treaties. The “Social dimension and European citizenship” focuses on the legacy of the Treaties regarding social policy and democratic participation. “Europe in the World” covers issues of the European international identity. The closing panel on future challenges facing the EU is dedicated to the current and future challenges of the EU.
The exhibit was created in cooperation with the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Italian Republic and Italian news agency ANSA.
