Families from “Rasadnik” Collective Centre in Vranje Receive New Houses with European Union Aid

EUD_dobitnici_kucaThe head of the cooperation sector of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Holger Schroeder, head of the third sector of operations of the EU Delegation Richard Masha, deputy mayor of Vranje Dragoljub Stevanović, commissar for refugees and migration of RS Vladimir Cucić and the director of the Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ASB) organization Goran Velev visited on 9 September the newly built houses for refugees from the “Rasadnik” collective centre that were financed by the European Union.

The houses built in Vranje are part of the European Union project “Support to Closing Collective Centres through Securing Permanent Housing Solutions for Refugees, Internally Displaced Persons and Returnees” worth a million euros and providing permanent housing solutions in Vranje, Smederevo and Gadžin Han for 177 refugees and internally displaced persons. The project is implemented by ASB in cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees.

The families from CC “Rasadnik” have received, in addition to the new houses, fully equipped homes with furniture and appliances. The head of the cooperation sector of the EU Delegation to Serbia and the deputy mayor have visited some of the most vulnerable families that have, after a decade and a half of living in the huts of the collective centre, moved into their new houses.

The project secured 177 internally displaced persons and refugees by building 45 prefabricated houses in Smederevo (138 beneficiaries), 8 buildings in Vranje (28 beneficiaries) and 11 in Gadžin Han (11 beneficiaries) a total of 64 houses were built.
