On 19 June, the State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Mr Nenad Ivanišević, PhD participated in a round table discussion where the findings of the third wave of the survey of Serbian citizens’ attitudes towards refugees and the migrant crisis were presented.
The public opinion research was conducted on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, as part of the “Support for Local Response to Refugee Crisis” project implemented by the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation in cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The third wave of the survey included 2,700 respondents, aged 15 or older, from Belgrade, Dimitrovgrad, Lajkovac, Preševo, Sjenica, Tutin, Subotica and Šid. The survey findings indicate that the majority of people still have a positive attitude towards and sympathy for the migrant population.
The Republic of Serbia was commended at the event as an example of good migrant crisis management and its citizens were hailed for their well-known hospitality, attested by the research findings. Furthermore, the significance of the partnership and cooperation of all stakeholders, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, non-governmental and international organisations and the international community was also stressed, with a view to overcoming the problems and alleviating the consequences of the migrant crisis.
