The Minister without Portfolio in the Government of the Republic of Serbia in charge of Eu integrations and the National IPA Coordinator Jadranka Joksimović assessed on 26 September that Serbia had an opportunity to promote itself as one of the countries of the Western Balkans that may drive the development in the region. Speaking at the fourth National Conference on Cross-Border Cooperation, Joksimović stressed implementation of reforms was a precondition for fulfillment of that objective and expressed conviction that Serbia will achieve good results in that respect over the next two years.
As of 2004, Serbia has been taking part in cross-border and transnational programmes. Over tha past two-three years, it has been driving the regional cooperation. Joksimović said that it was certain that Serbia will continue having successful cross-border cooperation programmes which have proved to be important after the May floods because they offered a chance to our contry to draw proceeds for rehabilitation from the EU funds.
The conference awarded 13 projects of best cross-border practice in Serbia 2012 – 2013. The objective of the conference was to emphasize the results achieved in this area in the Week of European Territorial Cooperation marked in more than 40 countries in Europe. Also presented were the achievements of the cross-border and transnational cooperation programmes implemented in Serbia and the neighbouring countries as well as the programmes to be funded by the EU in the period 2014 – 2020.
