The European Commission approved the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Croatia-Serbia for 2014-2020, with a total value of over EUR 40 million, with over EUR 34 million coming from the IPA funds and the European Fund for Regional Development.
The programme encompasses the territory of five districts in Serbia: Severno-bački, Zapadno-bački, Južno-bački, Sremski and Mačvanski district, and four counties in Croatia: Osječko-baranjska, Vukovarsko-srijemska, Brodsko-posavska and Požeško-slavonska.
The funds are intended for both countries in order to jointly work on raising the quality of public social and healthcare services, increased use of sustainable resources and cross-border monitoring of environmental risks. Likewise, the funds will be used for improving the capacity and cooperation of the two countries within tourism, as well as increasing regional competitiveness through strengthening ties between companies and research institutions.
The management body of the programme is the Agency for Regional Development of the Republic of Croatia, and the national body of the programme is the European Integration Office of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The seat of the Joint Programme Secretariat is in Zagreb, with a local office in Sremska Mitrovica.
