The organization Mikser and the “Ana i Vlade Divac” Foundation, as the initiators of Refugee Aid Miksalište, won the “European Citizenship Award 2016”, presented to renowned organizations and initiatives achieving positive impact on the community during the previous year, applying the values of European democracy in practice. During the same day when the news of this prestigious award arrived from London, Refugee Aid Miksalište announced that, after a one week break, it will resume operations at the address Gavrila Principa 15.
Miksalište is a humanitarian centre arising as the citizens’ response to the refugee crisis, with a large number of humanitarian organizations involved in its operation, such as UNHCR, Ana i Vlade Divac Foundation, Praxis, Save the children, Médecins du Monde, CARE international, NRC, Novi Sad Humanitarian Centre, Oxfam, Terre Des Homes, Lifegate, Karitas, Čovekoljublje and many others. During the one year of its existence, over 130 000 refugees received direct assistance in food, clothes, footwear, medical examinations, education. As a distributive centre, the Miksalište team sent daily assistance to the borders, thus helping the most vulnerable refugees, particularly during the winter period. Over 1200 volunteers helped with the work of Miksalište, from over 68 countries worldwide. Miksalište is this year’s winner of the annual “Contribution of the Year to Europe” award, presented by the European Movement in Serbia, as well as the International European Movement.
