A regular survey of public opinion done by the Office for the European Integration shows that nearly half of the population of Serbia would support the country’s membership in the European Union in the case of a referendum while little more than one-quarter would vote against. The rate of support for membership in the EU did not significantly change if compared with the 2015 survey while the number of those opposed remained unchanged. The majority of the population still thinks that changes should be made regardless to the European integration and that issues with Priština should be resolved through dialogue. According to the citizens of Serbia, Switzerland still has the best organization of government, and with regard to the question who is Serbia’s biggest donor, the perception of the population changed significantly, since 2000, in favour of the European Union.
According to the results announced on February 01 of the survey done in December of last year, in the case of an immediate referendum on “Whether or not people supported membership to the EU?” 48% would vote in favour of the EU membership, 28% would vote against, 15% would not vote at all, and 9% do not know or do not have an answer. These are the results of the survey called “The European orientation of Serbian citizens” and it was done on the sample of 1.027 adults.
