The newly appointed President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker presented on 10 September the composition of the future Commission which is expected to boost economic growth and decrease unemployment in the EU. Therefore, several commissioners will be involved in attaining these objectives. The new Commission will have, for the first time, the Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy. For this position, Juncker proposed the Austrian Johannes Hahn. France, Great Britain and Germany were entrusted key economic sectors in the new Commission. The future Commission is to have seven vice presidents including one first vice president.
As expected Johannes Hahn from Austria was appointed Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Policy (ENP). The press release issued by the European Commission states that in addition to enhancing neighbourhood policy, the focus of this sector is to be on continuation of englargement negotiations reminding that there will be no new members will accede the EU in the next five years, as Juncker had stated in his political guidelines.
The new composition of the Commission is to be approved by the European Parliament at its plenary session in October. They will take the office on 1 November. The new team will assume the duty from the outgoing European Commission team headed by Jose Manuel Baroso.
