The young in Serbia become independent later in life, 61,3% of the young are supported by parents, about 36% have their incomes while only “a third of the young want to participate in politics and decision-making“, it was said in the meeting for the International Youth Day on August 12. It was rated that the system of education is important for the youth activism, while parents in Serbia often teach their children that they should not particularly stand out and professors do not support different ideas of their students and do not encourage them to think critically.
The Deputy of the Manager of the Office for Youth and Cooperation with Associations of the City of Belgrade Nikola Rajičić said that the problem was financing the local youth offices and that they often depended on whether local officials were sensitive to youth politics. He suggested that one percentage should be allocated from the budget at the local and republic levels for youth offices.
Aleksandar Voškić from the Ministry of Youth and Sports said that at the moment the amendment procedure of the Law on Youth and Law on Volunteering was ongoing as well as that the research should be done which would provide guidelines for simplifying the business of young entrepreneurs.
The meeting was organized by the Youth Umbrella Organization (KOMS).
The International Youth Day was established by UN in 1999.
