In the context of EU accession negotiations and in the area of agriculture, Serbia is to have a very demanding task to define the transition periods for harmonization and development of institutions – first of all, the Directorate for Agrarian Payments, for resolution of issues such as production quotas and refernce years, as well as the right to purchase agricultural land, concluded a meeting on cooperation of producers and consumers in improving safety and quality of food and EU negotiations held in the Serbian Chamber of Commerce on 16 April 2014.

The Chapter 12 on food safety and veterinarian and phytosanitary policy is very comprehensive and includes numerous standards. According to the experiences of past enlargements, Serbia will probably be given criteria for opening and closing this Chapter.
