Personal Assistants for 250 Children with Developmental Disabilities

blackboard - ilustracijaThe City of Belgrade issued a Call for Financing the Development Programme of the Association for Providing Personal Assistant Services within the territory of the city for the period July – December 2015.

This social protection service aims to provide the required assistance in accordance with the needs of children with developmental disabilities and their families in order for the children to attend school activities without difficulties and gradually develop independence.

Personal assistants will help children with developmental disabilities satisfy their basic needs in everyday life, while the call envisages for education of all personal assistants by way of a programme accredited with the Social Protection Institute of Serbia.

The right to the service is held by children with developmental disabilities receiving the service during the previous school year, as well as children having in the meantime obtained an opinion by the Intersectoral Commission for providing support to children and students by providing the service of personal assistant and whose parents have submitted a request to the Secretariat for Education and Child Protection of the City of Belgrade.

The purpose of the personal assistant service for the child is providing adequate individual practical support to the child for the inclusion of the child in regular school education and community activities, as well as for establishing the greatest possible level of independence.
