The public discussion on the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on the Fundamentals of the Education System was started on 20 June and lasted until 10 July 2015. According to the schedule, the first roundtable on the Draft Law was held in Niš on 1 July 2015, with the others in Kragujevac on 2 July, Novi Sad on 6 July and Belgrade on 7 and 8 July 2015.

The Draft Law was published on the website of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development and the e-government portal www.euprava.gov.rs

The reasons for adopting the amendments to the law are the changes occurring in society, both on the economic, as well as social front, as well as the need to improve certain solutions in the Law that lead to problems in practice. Since these amendments require the closer regulation of the system of education in the Republic of Serbia with the newly arisen circumstances and new working conditions, aiming to approximate and harmonize the education system in the Republic of Serbia with the education system of the European Union and the modern world, a new Draft Law on the Amendments to the Law on the Fundamentals of the Education System was initiated.
