Sustainability of civil society organisations (CSO) in Serbia has been improving and, in 2013, progress was made in six of the seven categories of the sustainability index, shows the new report. The USAID Head of Mission ad interim stressed the opportunities that CSOs have in the process of EU acession. The Director of the Government Office for Cooperation with the Civil Society noted the need to improve the provision of services by CSOs, which is the only area where Serbia did not record progress in 2013.
CSO sustainability index, developed by USAID and the National Coalition for Decentralisation rose from 4.2 in 2012 to 4.1 in 2013. Concrete improvements are recorded in legislative framework, organisational capacities, financial sustainability, public advocacy, infrastructure and image in public. Status quo persist in the domain of provision of services.
CSO sustainability index in Serbia 2013 is part of a more comprehensive report for Central and Eastern Europe which monitors the situation and trends of development of the civil society in 29 countries and at regional level.
