The latest survey focusing on health of the Serbian population shows an increase in the numbers of overweight adults and children, of the citizens who smoke and drink alcohol, with hypertension remaining the most frequent illness in the period of the last seven years. At the presentation of the preliminary results it was stated that the recorded number of the overweight persons is not dramatic but “admonitory”. Although slight, the increase of the percentage of smokers is surprising as the restrictive anti-smoking law has been in effect since 2010. The final results of the Serbia population health survey will be published in October.
The data were collected from 6,500 households Serbia wide – 14,623 persons aged 15+ and 1,376 children aged 7- 14.
