Serbia is in the 65 place, towards the bottom of the European countries. The countries are ranked by 33 indicators including the spread of some diseases, smoking, alcohol, hygiene as well as the risk of violent death.

The improvement of health indicators related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals was monitored in the study published in the British medical journal Lancet. The study was conducted by the American Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) in Seattle and financed by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The improvement with regards to the reduction of mother and baby mortality and contraception approach has proved to be achieved in the World. The goals in the domain of the fight against obesity of children, family violence and alcohol abuse are still far away and there is no country that have managed to eliminate completely the diseases like tuberculosis. The number of people exposed to health risk due to the quality of water and bad hygienic conditions is reduced. In addition to this, a great number of countries have increased the approach to basic healthcare services such as antiretroviral therapy in HIV and mosquito netting curtains aimed at fighting against malaria.

Serbia has the lowest grade with regard to the fulfillment of the needs of women up to 49 years of age for the modern birth control methods, where it was graded with 37 out of 100. The problems are also the death rate as the consequence of natural forces where it was graded with 40. This indicator is measured in the context of the goal of the United Nations to improve the status, like housing conditions, of the poorest population.

Serbia also got the grade below 50 on the scale from 0 to 100 for the suicide rate (44), smoking (43), as well as hygiene, that is, part of people who do not have adequate hygiene, that is, do not wash their hands with water and soap (43 points). On the other hand, Serbia is in the “green zone” with regard to sewage availability as well as death due to the inadequate approach to water and sewage where it got 85 points.

It also got a good grade for the universal healthcare coverage (89). It is also in an extremely good position as to the inadequate nutrition of children – for the insufficient development due to malnutrition it got the grade 91, for malnutrition 87 and it is in a slightly worse position as to overnutrition in children – 65, which is still an extremely good result compared to the European countries that are better ranked.
